The weather has been cold ,windy and at times its rained on us but the fish are still hungry and will bite! Cold water temps has forced us to fish the many ditches, creeks and run offs around Flamingo and Cape Sable. While it may not be as exciting as watching a fish eat a fly, it is a very effective way of fishing….Shrimp on a jig fished on the bottom produces many different species of fish…Snook, redfish, tarpon, trout, black drum, etc. will bite a shrimp thats drifted down current to them almost every time….On the nicer days ive been able to find some decent Snook “laid up”in some very shallow water….it always amazes me how these fish will find the warmest, shallowest water….even when its still cold outside,if the sun is out, Snook will be somewhere shallow!! We have had some success on these shallow water fish as well…..Fly fishing is perfect for this!
